It occurs to me that I've got a fairly busy few weekends coming up. I should write down roughly what's going on so I don't collapse into a screaming pile of flail after misorganising something, particularly in terms of travel arrangements.
Yep, that's every weekend from now to mid-August booked. I hope noone expects me to be good for anything the weekend after that last one... :)
It's that time of year again: I'm off to go be someone else in a field in Oxfordshire Buckinghamshire over the weekend. Since I pick up the van tomorrow morning, I suppose I should say goodbye now.
Will be off comms, to all intents and purposes, from tomorrow morning until Monday night, except to people trying to find me in said field tomorrow night. Have a good Easter, if you celebrate, otherwise enjoy the holiday.
Me? I plan to. I NEED a holiday right now, corrections are wearing me down and I've too many things people need me to do. I'll be putting them all on hold for four days, then coming back to them refreshed, I hope.
Good morning!

Evening
Several of my friends have started keeping todo lists online, for the day, for the weekend, or for whatever period is necessary. They seem to use them as a reminder that they are Succeeding At Life: that things are getting done and that they are a worthwhile person, even if they feel a bit overwhelmed by All The Things.
This seems like an excellent idea, so I'm going to try it for a bit: apologies for the blogspam this will generate.
Equally, they note that sometimes even the little things can be hard, some days. I'm aware that I'm at an extremely low ebb right now, in terms of mental capacity, so my todo list will probably seem weirdly specific or excessively detailed. This is an attempt at using mental resources when I have them (in the evening) to give structure and sense to the day when I don't.
Good Morning!

The world needs more handsome women in heavy armour.
Um.
Anyway. This weekend there was a Maelstrom player event in Cambridge, a house party held by a fairly well-known figure in the game world, Dr Fiona Marshall. It was simple enough: a gathering in a building with a couple of reasonably-sized halls, served meals and a few games, and a ceilidh in the evening. It was good fun, even if I ended up skipping the ceilidh (for the second year running!) to engage people in discussion of the metaphysics of the world instead. I was in character solidly from 1100 to 0200 the following morning without any real effort, and without taking any mask-breaks except when eating soup (managed two meals in full kit with half-mask in place). If I can do that well at main events, I'm happy. Even if my makeup was a bit hit and miss, and my hat kept trying to fall off.
Those are small complaints, and not an exhaustive list (I'm carefully not mentioning the drive up, for example, in driving rain, poor visibility and on slippery roads). The small complaints are easily outweighed by the awesome of the players and characters. A good weekend, and a good rest. Now, I have tomorrow to finish writing the first of three 1.5hr sessions teaching C to masters students. Easy, right?
Right?
